Anyway, so a good friend of mine heard about hosting a "Pinterest Party" and decided it sounded fun. She picked a craft for us to try that she had pinned on Pinterest, gathered all of the supplies we'd need, and we all chipped in some $ to cover the cost.
She picked the infamous yarn wreath:
(I apologize for the tutorial and pics - I didn't take the best pics at the party and ended up not finishing my wreath there - so I also have pics from when I finished it at home - bear with me!)
Supplies needed:
- Foam wreath form - any size/color
- Scissors
- Glue gun
- Yarn - any color/texture
- Felt - any color/texture
- Floral pins (optional)
We started out with a foam wreath form purchased at the craft store.
We all chose the color yarn we wanted to use, and began wrapping the wreath form in yarn. To start, you can either tie a knot, or hot glue the yarn to the form to give you an "anchor." When you're wrapping, don't be TOO concerned with keeping it all straight and beautiful, or else it'll take FOR.EV.ER. Keep it as neat as you can while still keeping a good pace.
If you run out of yarn (unless you have the whole skein to yourself), just find a good place (hopefully around the back of the wreath) to tie on a new piece of yarn and keep going. Wrap until you've covered the whole wreath form.
Ok and here's where my pics get wonky. I added flowers to mine at the party, but didn't take any pics of HOW I made them, so I'm going to use pics of the last 2 flowers I made here at home to show you how.
This is where the scissors, felt, and glue gun come in.
Cut a strip of felt (length-wise) about 3-4 inches wide (wider depending on the size of the flower you'd like to make).
Add a line of hot glue length-wise near the edge of the felt.
Fold the felt over and seal the glue - don't burn your fingers!
Take the scissors and begin cutting the felt (but not all of the way through the glue) at the folded side.
Cut the whole length of felt like this. Feel free to vary the widths between your cuts - for either skinny or chunkier "petals."
Starting at one side, roll the felt, hot gluing every so often as you go along.
And eventually you'll have this!
Like I mentioned before, my wreath was just about done when I made this flower, so you'll just have to make a few in varying sizes and position them on the wreath.
That being said, when you decide where you'd like them on the wreath, you have 2 options to secure them to it - either with the glue gun, or in case you'd ever like to switch the flowers out (maybe for different seasons?), you can use floral pins, which is what I did.
(before I added the last flower)
And with the addition of the last flower.
I had help with this project, of course :)
